11:05 a.m., June 16, 2010----The Newark Police Department has reported suspicious activity involving a newer model silver minivan with tinted windows in the area of Main Street and Elkton Road.
Police said that at 9:50 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, a female driver was stopped at the traffic signal at Main and Academy streets. When the light changed, she proceeded on Main Street and noticed that a van that had been parked nearby entered the roadway behind her car.
The van followed her car down Main Street, onto Elkton Road and into a parking lot on Thorn Lane, where the driver planned to meet her boyfriend.
As the driver pulled into a parking space, she noticed the van being backed in the direction of her car with the van's passenger side sliding door open.
The driver's boyfriend arrived at her car and the driver of the van stopped backing toward her car and quickly drove forward out of the parking lot. The van was last seen heading toward Elkton Road.
The silver minivan had red and white lettering on the sides and windows, and a television screen illuminated the interior.
The driver is described as a man in his 40s with no facial hair, possibly with brown eyes, and wearing a black baseball cap.
Newark Police provided the information to alert the public. At this time, police said there is no known criminal intent by the operator of the van and no known connection between this incident and other criminal activity.
